Sip, Paint and Relax

Painting parties, sip and paint, paint nights, whatever you want to call it; The Paint Club has been running them in pubs, bars, breweries, homes and offices for 8 years now. In that time we've learnt a lot about what makes a creative experience work for everyone.

We've put together a short guide of what to expect if you are coming along to one of our events.

What happens during the event?

Every sip and paint event we run as The Paint Club follows a similar format. This goes for our regular events in pubs and bars and private workshops. The room will be set up with tabletop easels for you to sit in front of. You'll have a set of paintbrushes, a cup of water, a small palette of paint and your canvas. The workshop is led by one of our brilliant artists. They will let you know where to sit. Once everyone is ready, the painting commences!

Your artist will start guiding you through the set painting for the event. Some people come along for the painting we are teaching for the session; it's worth checking what the painting will be when booking. For events where we are at venues monthly, we try to alternate between painting scenes and animals. Art is subjective, after all, and people discovering what they like to paint is a big part of what we love about The Paint Club.

Over the 2 hours, your artist will provide easy-to-follow instructions and encourage you to add your artistic elements. After the first 5 minutes of painting, we find that any nerves or concerns melt away with each brushstroke.

By the end of the session, you should have a painting you are proud of. It's worth wandering around the room to see how everyone else has interpreted it. It's always amazing to see how different the paintings turn out. Does your friend's llama look like them? Maybe you can take inspiration from the way that person painted their stars.

Where's the sip?

It's a question we get asked occasionally. The "sip" in paint and sip, refers to the venue that the painting takes place in. Some companies do include a drink in their ticket price, but we know not everyone wants a drink, sometimes they want cheesy chips or a slice of cake alongside their painting.

"I can't draw a stick man!"

We have heard this A LOT.

We can't tell you the amount of times people have arrived at our workshops and said that they can't paint, or their teacher put them off art at school. We've designed our paintings to be as simple as possible to follow. Of course, you can add as much to a painting as you like (and if you want to continue with your painting at home we can help with that with a Painting Kit 😉 ) but if you want to just follow the demonstration on the day that is fine too.

Most of our painting instructions start by getting you to paint the background and then build up to adding details. We've found this is a great way of helping introduce people to controlling their brush and how much paint to use.

What's the vibe of sip and paint?

We try to make our events as inclusive as possible. Yes, most of our painting workshops are in pubs and bars, but we have designed the experience to suit introverts and extroverts, singles and groups of friends alike.

If you want to come along and enjoy trying something new, that is fine. Equally, if you want to use The Paint Club as an excuse to meet up with friends for an evening out, go for it! We don't do group participation or forced interaction, so if zoning out and focusing on the painting is what you want to do, then that's OK.
